Our poop bags are made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and are not “biodegradable” based on the FTC’s definition, ‘the product won’t completely break down into its natural components within one year after customary disposal’. You might ask, why didn't we make our bags biodegradable? Great question! Pet waste, like human waste, is generally not safe to compost at home, and very few compost facilities accept this waste due to the bacteria that’s present in the fecal material. The EPA recommends that pet waste should be properly disposed of in your household trash, which ends up in the land fill.Biodegradable items generally do not biodegrade in a land fill because they are compacted so tightly.
Biodegradable products should be sent to a commercial composting facility (not the land fill) where there is proper oxygen, water, and microbes to help the items biodegrade. Since proper disposal of pet waste is in a landfill, and since items generally don't biodegradable in a landfill, we don't make our plastic bags from biodegradable plastics. We're all for doing our part to protect and preserve our world, but we also believe in being genuine and honest to deliver real results. So there you have it, that's the poop!
