Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids are critical to your pet's overall health.
Let's start with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
- These are essential fatty acids…meaning they’re critically important to your pet’s overall health and vitality. Our pets can't make Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty ocids on their own -- they must get them from their diet.
- They provide essential nutrients for their entire bodies to function – working on the cellular level from the inside out.
- Omega-6 fatty acids are found in vegetable oil, sunflower oil and safflower oil - oils that are common in most dog and cat food diets.
- Omega-3 fatty acids however, are found in either fresh wild-caught, cold water fish or in different types of seaweeds.
- Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory.
Omega-3 fatty acids support:
- Cardiovascular System
- Nervous System
- Immune System
- Joint Health
- Reduces Shedding
- Helps with Seasonal Allergies
- Reduces itching/scratching
- Reduces red, irritated or flaky skin and hot spots
- Helps to improve energy and stamina
- Leaves your pet with healthy skin, and a soft and shiny coat
Omega-6 fatty acids support:
- Reproduction
- Growth and Immune Function
- Skin & Coat Health
In a typical pet's diet today, Omega-6 fatty acids are plentiful -- the ratio is about 1:40 (one Omega-3 fatty acid to 40 Omega-6 fatty acids) which is actually a pro-inflammatory diet, which isn’t so good. Pet parents need to supplement their pet's diet with a good, quality source of Omega-3 fatty acids to achieve an anti-inflammatory diet, and overall health. By adding pawTree's Wild Alaskan Salmon & Pollock Oil to your pet's diet, you increase the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids achieving an optimal 12:1 ratio of over 15 heart-healthy Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
We often see poor quality, dull, itchy coats in our pets today. One of the reasons is that our pets are not getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids. By increasing the amount of Omega-3’s in their diet, and giving them a preferred ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6’s (12:1), you’ll see an improvement in the health of their skin (which, by the way, is the largest organ in our pet’s body), and a huge improvement in the quality of their coat – as well as SO MANY other widespread health benefits, as these Omegas work on the cellular level. The results…less itching, less shedding and a lustrous, huggable coat AND supporting optimum health and vitality for your pet.
Omega-9 fatty acids:
- Omega 9 fatty acids are very beneficial as well, however they are not considered "essential", as the body can produce them. Mainly, Omega-9’s are called on when the pet has low Omega-3’s or Omega-6’s due to a poor diet.
- Omega 9’s help:
- Improve Blood Circulation
- Increase Energy
- Enhance Mood
